I bought some mesh on sale for $1.50 at the end of last summer and have been planning on making a wreath since then. Today I finally decided to figure out how it’s done. It’s super simple, by the way. I have a HUGE tote full of flowers so I didn’t need to buy any, and the wreath frame was $1.00 from Dollar Tree. So I have around $3 invested in this wreath. Not too shabby, in my opinion 😏.
Oh, when I say I have a HUGE tote of flowers, I’m not kidding:
And the best way to look for what I need? Dump it, of course. Philip and all the girls I work with can attest that this picture perfectly captures how I work on anything. There’s always an enormous mess before something beautiful happens 😉.
While I was deciding what to adorn my wreath with I randomly remembered that I have a birdhouse that I bought a while back. I probably wouldn’t have remembered except I just reorganized my craft room for the thousandth time earlier this week and I saw it then. Anyway, that’s how project #2 came under way. I looked on Pinterest for some inspiration on how to paint it and then ended up doing my own thing.
I think I was inspired to do these colors because they are similar to a painting I shared with you all that I did a couple of months ago. It was a tree with snow on it and the background was really pretty. Well that painting no longer exists because a certain puppy, who shall remain nameless, ate it while I was in the shower last week 😡.
When I was searching for flowers to put on my wreath I found these beauties. I was unimpressed with the spider leg looking pistil so I removed them and replaced it with a bedazzled jewel and then threw them in a mason jar to make a cute little bouquet for my table ❤️.
Bedazzled jewels are soooo much prettier than spider leg pistols!
While I was busy crafting, Philip was working on a project as well. I talked about making an aquaponic garden last year on here and we’ve been back and forth about a dozen times since then but we finally bought supplies and got it ready to start. An aquaponic garden, if you don’t know, is one where plants grow in gravel instead of dirt and fish are used to filter and fertilize the water, which is pumped up to a grow bed above the fish tank. There are different ways to set them up so it may not happen exactly like that but that’s the gist of it, anyway. Philip read about making a bell siphon with different sized pieces of PVC pipe. Basically the little piece sits inside the bigger one and when it fills up, it creates suction, which pulls the water back down. The water will run through tube and pour back into the fish tank, which has a pump that pushes more water into the grow bed. It’s supposed to be a very low maintenance garden and aquarium. I’m nervous about having animals that won’t yell at me if I forget to feed them 😳. And yes, I care about the fish. I will be sad if (when) they die 😢. I think we’re going to get goldfish so hopefully they’ll live for a while. We should get beta fish because my grandma had a beta fish that had 9 lives. I want to say it’s name was Simon but I may be mistaken because I had a lot of fish growing up and each one had a name so I may be getting my fish confused. Anyway, we’ll call him Simon. So one day Simon was doing his little fish thing, swimming around, and for some unknown reason, he leaped...LEAPED out of his bowl and onto the carpet. I wouldn’t have believed it but I saw it with my own eyes. One moment Grandma and I were just sitting there talking and the next moment Simon was on the ground. So what did I do? I picked him up, of course. Only I completely underestimated how slimy he was going to feel and it grossed me out so I threw him back down on the floor 😳. (By the way, I was like 9 when this happened. Not that that makes any difference because I would probably still be freaked out if I did that today.) But I came to my senses quickly and grabbed the net Grandma used to clean his tank and scooped him back up and returned him to his watery home. Now the question is, was Simon suicidal? It’s over 20 years later and I’m questioning this fish’s intentions. There was no precursor to the leaping..no loud noise, nothing hit his tank. This leaves me feeling very perplexed. Did I thwart Simon’s attempt to escape his fishbowl misery? And come to think of it, that’s not even the first time that had happened. Grandma told me that she had found him on the stand that she kept the bowl on once before. I’m also about 90% sure he got knocked into the soapy dish water once that was being used to clean his bowl. I’m not even sure what ever actually killed him once he finally did die. Or did he? Maybe he’s still out there, an old fish, just swimming around in the sewer, because I know Grandma flushed him. He probably drowned himself since everyone was so eager to rescue him out of water. Oh Simon. I’m pretty sure that Simon was unique though because I had plenty of beta fish (you can find their bones buried in the yard of my childhood home) and none of them were as resilient as Simon. We had cats though so.. 🤷🏻♀️
Anyway, here are the pics of the aquaponic garden so far:
We’ll fill the tank and let the water cycle for a couple of days before we put any fish in it. I think we’re going to have 4 so I need to start thinking of fish names!😉
Luckily, the shelf over the fish tank is a pretty snug fit so I won’t have to worry about any “body” messing with the fish. Although I fully expect nose prints on the side of the glass 🙄.
Little miss thing has definitely claimed her home and is testing her limits to figure out her place in this family. She habitually barks at me to pay attention to her. Seriously. Like she wants me to pet her or put her on my lap. Normally I would ignore such ridiculous behavior but she’s so stinking cute it’s not funny. And that’s how she gets away with breaking every rule of etiquette there is. She invades everyone’s space, she “man spreads,” she steals EVERYTHING, she stinks up the room all the time, the list goes on. But then you see this adorable little face and you just wanna kiss it.
Yes, she is sitting on the coffee table and no, she’s not allowed to do that. She is also not allowed to sit on her sister but that doesn’t stop her. Actually, she pretty much parks her little ass anywhere that she sees fit.
These are two separate occasions in the last two days 🙄.
This is what I wake up to.
That dog is a reverse sour patch kid. You know how “first they’re sour, then they’re sweet?” Well she comes in with the illusion of sweetness by giving you kisses..and turns sour as she bites your hand, arm, nose or anything else she can get her mouth on. I have photographic proof of her evilness, captured by my friend, Kim. Just look at her face! Poor Nala is like, “OH SHIT 😳😳”
😂😂😂 That is my favorite pic ever.
Garden news coming next week! Have a great night!
