Last week, Philip and I attended an Urban Agriculture conference and it was great! We learned a whole bunch about harvesting, bee keeping, raised bed gardening, and using a rain barrel. We were really excited to get back home to put our new knowledge to use. During the course on raised bed gardening the instructor showed us a very simple raised bed, made from 3 2x10's, and Philip really liked it. He wasn't the biggest fan of my pallet garden but didn't say much since they were free. I like to think of them as being "eco-chic" 😏 So anyway, this led to us buying wood and constructing a raised bed. I liked the idea of this because we can use conduit to hold a net, which I'm hoping will keep out the neighborhood critters. By the way, if you think you need a truck to haul wood, you're wrong! 😂 They fit nicely in my Kia Forte KOUP!
Of course, we had some help building...
And 10 more bags of dirt of later....
The plan is to transplant what's in the pallets into this bed (if it ever stops raining. I know it didn't rain today but I had to mow!). I kept the bags that our dirt came in and cut them to make tarps to cover the plants last night and tonight. Hopefully this will be the last frost!
We will most likely build a second raised bed to house the plants that are still growing inside. The tomatoes are growing like weeds! Which is the only time I want weeds mentioned about my garden! 😜
