When I started writing this blog last spring, I only intended for it to be a tale of all my mishaps during my first year of gardening, so I wasn’t sure where this was going to go as the weather cooled down. We progressed to home improvement later in the summer and now that WINTER IS COMING (GoT fans?), and the time change makes me want to sleep at 8 pm, we’re not getting a whole lot done these days. Don’t worry though, I’m going to amuse you nonetheless (hopefully).  I’m not one to transform into a couch potato in the winter (unless it’s after 8 pm πŸ™„). Seriously, unless I’m sick, I can’t be idle. It’s a curse...that makes me super productive, so it’s like, a nice curse, kinda. Buckle up, it’s gonna be a long winter of crafting!

I spent about 3/4 of the day yesterday working on crafts. I love creating things. Philip and I are both ridiculous when we get a new hobby. You know, some people start slowly, buying supplies a little at a time. They give it time to see if the hobby is something they enjoy doing and will continue to do before investing more. Not us. That’s totally not our style. We like to buy 86 of something and then try it out. We have so much paracord. If you ever need to tie someone up or make a new roof for your house, we can definitely help. My new necklace venture is no different. I have clay in 4 different colors, faux suede, leather, and hemp, and about 934 beads. It’s important to have options, ya know?  This was my work station yesterday (below). Remember how last time I told you about keeping the icing container and gluing a handle on the lid? Well some of the beads are still in the bottom (among other places, because 934 beads won’t fit in that small of a container) but I have decided to use the lid as a press for the clay. It works really well and a wine cork is awesome as a makeshift rolling pin. The clay acts as a diffuser for essential oils. I may have told you that last time but I don’t think I did because I remember thinking that I forgot to say that, so now you know...if you didn’t already. I’ve been trying to wear Patchouli oil because one of it’s benefits is to battle anxiety, which can be a struggle sometimes for me. However, I don’t really like the way patchouli smells so I think it makes me more anxious. My step sister wears it all the time and when I walk into our office (we work together) I can always smell her and think she smells good. When I wear it I think it smells like moldy mushrooms. Smelling like moldy mushrooms doesn’t calm my anxiety. I accidentally dropped the bottle on the kitchen counter the other day and even after wiping it up, the kitchen smells like patchouli 3 days later. So obviously patchouli never goes away and I’m going to smell like rotting fungi for the rest of my life. Hopefully I’ll just get used to it and won’t smell it anymore before long. Sigh.

I made 4 necklaces with clay pendants and 4 ankle bracelets. This one was my favorite because it matches my nail polish, of course πŸ˜‰. I love glitter nail polish but not glitter anything else. I saw a meme one time that referred to glitter as the herpes of crafting supplies...because it ain’t ever goin away! I’ve never read anything more true. My friend Kim HATES glitter and if I was a mean person I would pour glitter in her Christmas card...but I’m not. I would try really hard not to laugh if someone else did though πŸ˜‰πŸ€ͺ. (Love you, Kim 😘).

My other crafting activity yesterday involved making magnetic picture frames with jar lids (which autocorrect just changed to “had kids”...umm no, autocorrect, jar and lids are both words so thanks for nothing πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„). I’ve decided I’m going to feature a repurpose in every post because I love repurposing and if I keep subjecting you to it, you will one day love it too 😘, hehe. Soooo, from a lid that would normally get tossed in the trash (in other people’s homes. Not here because I save almost everything lol), I’ve created these:

These are made from lids on certain salsa jars and on Oliverio’s peppers. I need to make some more but I’m out of lids so I guess we’re having chips and salsa for Thanksgiving πŸ˜‰.

Tonight is your lucky night because it’s a 2 for 1 special in the repurpose department. I was just scrolling thru my pics and remembered that I made a “craft” from one of Phil’s old white tee shirts. He wears them as under shirts and if I didn’t buy him new ones every so often he would wear them until they fall apart. I have to sneak to throw his socks away, too, when they get holes in them. Why wear socks with holes in them? Isn’t the point to cover your feet and keep them warm? Hole-y socks aren’t warm. I had to spell hole-y like that because it seemed wrong to call them holy socks...like they were Jesus’s socks or something.
ANYWAY, back to the point. Old t-shirts are great for making sachets for drawers or anywhere you need to soak up some stink. I put them in our shoe cabinet..which probably stinks from people wearing hole-y socks, which let the stink out into the shoes 😝.

Cut 2 squares the same size and seal 3 sides together with iron tape, if you’re feeling lazy, or sew them, if you’re not. Mine are taped, which works just fine. Turn them inside out and stick some patches on them if you want your sachets to be super cool like mine, or you can leave them plain and boring πŸ˜‰. I’ve had these patches forever because what do people do with patches these days? I figured using patches promoting recycling on a repurposing project was just too perfect not to. Fill them with rice and add some essential oils. We had some Texmati rice that I bought months ago that wasn’t going to get eaten because Texmati rice has a disgusting taste and consistency, so it works perfectly in sachets. The pine essential oil I put in probably made it taste better than before lol. You can use anything to close them up. I would normally have used ribbon but the cord organizers I bought from the Wish app happened to come in the mail the day I was making these so that’s what I used. They hold very well and I’m definitely buying some more to actually use on cords.

We’ve noticed lately that Sansa really likes laying her on back. I know what you’re thinking, guys, but she’s not that kind of girl πŸ˜‰. She is, however, a total goofball and my camera roll is filled with tons of pics of her in a similar position as the one below. This one is my new fav. That dog totally crack me up. There’s never a day without smiles when she’s around 😊.

I hope you enjoyed my crafting saga tonight! Good night!

If you haven’t noticed, I usually post on Sunday,  so I’m late this week but I blame the time change, which meant I fell asleep at 8:30 last night. I’m an old woman in this young(ish) body. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been up to:
  • Jewelry making. Necklaces, specifically, and these  don’t involve paracord.
  • Turning my plain black desk into pretty with contact paper.
  • Repurposing “trash” (as always)
  • Trying out the soap we made in August. Spoiler: it didn't burn the bits πŸ˜‰
Let’s start with the soap.

This was our turnout, minus one. It cured completely so no zapping on any of the parts (yay!), BUT the smell is faint, almost nonexistent, it gets smooshy toward the end of the bar, and the square ones have hard edges at first that make shaving slightly unpleasant. To fix these issues I have ordered some different essential oils, we plan to change the coconut oil/olive oil ratio, and I bought some round, rubber molds on the Wish app that should be here soon. Have you guys used the Wish app? I have found the coolest stuff on there, like these socks:

Who doesn’t want a pair of Wonder Woman socks with capes on the back? No one, that’s who. That’s just one thing I’ve purchased but they have lots of cool stuff and it’s super cheap. It’s coming directly from China, so, ya know, use PayPal when you buy, just to be safe. I haven’t had any trouble at all though and it usually comes faster than they say it will.

We’ll just move up that list because backwards is my style. I have been saving medicine bottles for a while now. Why? Because I believe that almost everything can be repurposed and I was right..as usual, just ask my husbandπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I found a non-profit organization, Matthew 25 Ministries, that takes them and redistributes them to people in need, nationally and internationally. They provide other services as well and have even recently organized a mission trip to southern WV to help rebuild 2 schools. The Founder of the Ministry says, “We can care for a needy world with the things we throw away.” He and I could totally be friends! So anyway, it’s a really great organization so spending a little bit of money on postage is worth it to play a small part in their efforts.

I use a couple pill bottles for different purposes and one is for quarters I keep in my car. The (not) lovely weather change last week came with a low tire light. I fight with them all winter so I like to have quarters on hand for air machines.

And yes, I decorated it with duck tape. Just because you’re repurposing doesn’t mean it has to be ugly πŸ˜‹.

Onward and upward: so I have a desk that I bought at IKEA like 6 years ago that I used in my craft room for a while. Recently it has had the prestigious job of providing a shelf in between my totes on the floor and atop, which hold my things for sale on EBay. I’ve been debating for a while about buying a new laptop because mine is old and anger inducing every time it freezes, but Philip recently did some electronic rearrangements involving a server (don’t ask me, I have no idea. I just helped run some wires) which freed up the mini Mac that he was using (it’s actually called a Mac Mini but mini Mac is easier to remember...it’s like Big Mac, only not). Soooooo, anyway (this is related, I swear), I decided to not buy a new laptop and try using the mini Mac for a while, which meant I needed a desk for it to live on. Enter ikea desk (See? I told ya). I got the idea to cover the top with contact paper on Pinterest, from someone who covered their end tables. I could tell you how much fun it is to do but I want you to experience it for yourself πŸ˜‰. It was worth it though. The top turned out great as long as you’re not a perfectionist (totally not me πŸ™„). If you are, plan to devote about 3 hours to a project like this to smooth out all the bumps. I forgot to take a “before” pic so I had to snag the one on IKEA’s website.

I really like how it turned out and I didn’t have to buy a new desk...saweeet! Im just gonna cover everything I don’t like now...kitchen cabinets, front door...Bahahaha. Okay, probably not.

Last on my list is necklace making. I have a new hobby every time I write a post. Maybe something will stick some day. In the meantime, clay necklaces are the newest rage. These are the three I made last week. I have so many ideas swirling in my head for my next batch but stupid Amazon lied to me about my charms being here today so I couldn’t work on them. (I’m just kidding Amazon, you’re not stupid and I love you. Just do better, kiddo).

I used a leaf charm from a necklace, a button, and an earring to make my impressions. I got more beads in the mail today (that I ordered from the Wish app. Just sayin’) so whenever my charms get here I’ll be a necklace making fool. I went to Walmart last week to get these beads and while I was there I got some cinnamon rolls to bake. Not something I usually eat, and I actually didn’t even eat those ones because I burned them πŸ˜’, but I did get a cool container for storing my beads in from the icing cup in the roll. I just glued a handle on the lid to make it a little easier to open.

At least something good came out of my impulse buy! 😝

I’m at the end of my list but obviously I can’t finish without a pic of Sansa so here’s a gem I took over the weekend when she road in the Jeep to Ace Hardware with us:

And here’s the slobber she dripped on the dashboard when she came to the front seat, where she knows she isn’t allowed to be:

It was even on the windshield, which means she touched her mouth to the glass. As soon as she saw us coming out she immediately went to the back πŸ™„. She’s a brat but I love her, slobber and all...πŸ˜›.

Tesla Review

So...something we did in September that I haven't mentioned yet was get a Tesla Model Y.  We weren’t really planning to buy one just yet...
