I spent about 3/4 of the day yesterday working on crafts. I love creating things. Philip and I are both ridiculous when we get a new hobby. You know, some people start slowly, buying supplies a little at a time. They give it time to see if the hobby is something they enjoy doing and will continue to do before investing more. Not us. That’s totally not our style. We like to buy 86 of something and then try it out. We have so much paracord. If you ever need to tie someone up or make a new roof for your house, we can definitely help. My new necklace venture is no different. I have clay in 4 different colors, faux suede, leather, and hemp, and about 934 beads. It’s important to have options, ya know? This was my work station yesterday (below). Remember how last time I told you about keeping the icing container and gluing a handle on the lid? Well some of the beads are still in the bottom (among other places, because 934 beads won’t fit in that small of a container) but I have decided to use the lid as a press for the clay. It works really well and a wine cork is awesome as a makeshift rolling pin. The clay acts as a diffuser for essential oils. I may have told you that last time but I don’t think I did because I remember thinking that I forgot to say that, so now you know...if you didn’t already. I’ve been trying to wear Patchouli oil because one of it’s benefits is to battle anxiety, which can be a struggle sometimes for me. However, I don’t really like the way patchouli smells so I think it makes me more anxious. My step sister wears it all the time and when I walk into our office (we work together) I can always smell her and think she smells good. When I wear it I think it smells like moldy mushrooms. Smelling like moldy mushrooms doesn’t calm my anxiety. I accidentally dropped the bottle on the kitchen counter the other day and even after wiping it up, the kitchen smells like patchouli 3 days later. So obviously patchouli never goes away and I’m going to smell like rotting fungi for the rest of my life. Hopefully I’ll just get used to it and won’t smell it anymore before long. Sigh.
I made 4 necklaces with clay pendants and 4 ankle bracelets. This one was my favorite because it matches my nail polish, of course π. I love glitter nail polish but not glitter anything else. I saw a meme one time that referred to glitter as the herpes of crafting supplies...because it ain’t ever goin away! I’ve never read anything more true. My friend Kim HATES glitter and if I was a mean person I would pour glitter in her Christmas card...but I’m not. I would try really hard not to laugh if someone else did though ππ€ͺ. (Love you, Kim π).
My other crafting activity yesterday involved making magnetic picture frames with jar lids (which autocorrect just changed to “had kids”...umm no, autocorrect, jar and lids are both words so thanks for nothing πππ). I’ve decided I’m going to feature a repurpose in every post because I love repurposing and if I keep subjecting you to it, you will one day love it too π, hehe. Soooo, from a lid that would normally get tossed in the trash (in other people’s homes. Not here because I save almost everything lol), I’ve created these:
These are made from lids on certain salsa jars and on Oliverio’s peppers. I need to make some more but I’m out of lids so I guess we’re having chips and salsa for Thanksgiving π.
Tonight is your lucky night because it’s a 2 for 1 special in the repurpose department. I was just scrolling thru my pics and remembered that I made a “craft” from one of Phil’s old white tee shirts. He wears them as under shirts and if I didn’t buy him new ones every so often he would wear them until they fall apart. I have to sneak to throw his socks away, too, when they get holes in them. Why wear socks with holes in them? Isn’t the point to cover your feet and keep them warm? Hole-y socks aren’t warm. I had to spell hole-y like that because it seemed wrong to call them holy socks...like they were Jesus’s socks or something.
ANYWAY, back to the point. Old t-shirts are great for making sachets for drawers or anywhere you need to soak up some stink. I put them in our shoe cabinet..which probably stinks from people wearing hole-y socks, which let the stink out into the shoes π.
Cut 2 squares the same size and seal 3 sides together with iron tape, if you’re feeling lazy, or sew them, if you’re not. Mine are taped, which works just fine. Turn them inside out and stick some patches on them if you want your sachets to be super cool like mine, or you can leave them plain and boring π. I’ve had these patches forever because what do people do with patches these days? I figured using patches promoting recycling on a repurposing project was just too perfect not to. Fill them with rice and add some essential oils. We had some Texmati rice that I bought months ago that wasn’t going to get eaten because Texmati rice has a disgusting taste and consistency, so it works perfectly in sachets. The pine essential oil I put in probably made it taste better than before lol. You can use anything to close them up. I would normally have used ribbon but the cord organizers I bought from the Wish app happened to come in the mail the day I was making these so that’s what I used. They hold very well and I’m definitely buying some more to actually use on cords.
We’ve noticed lately that Sansa really likes laying her on back. I know what you’re thinking, guys, but she’s not that kind of girl π. She is, however, a total goofball and my camera roll is filled with tons of pics of her in a similar position as the one below. This one is my new fav. That dog totally crack me up. There’s never a day without smiles when she’s around π.
I hope you enjoyed my crafting saga tonight! Good night!
